LG 47LM6700 May Prove a Little Less Value For Money Than Other LED/LCD’s

LG 47LM6700 May Prove a Little Less Value For Money Than Other LED/LCD’s

With a price tag oscillating close to the $900 mark, the LG 47LM6700 47” Cinema 3D 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD HDTV, does not fully live up to its expectations, especially when compared to similar competing models and brands. Picture quality in 3D is decent and color as accurate as you could expect, Smart TV comes with many apps and its sleek remote with motion-control functionality are all worth mentioning and highlighting. However, starting from the silver choice on the exterior to the shadows and levels of blackness, which appeared far too light, seemed to contradict the original promise we had started to endear to. There is also the annoying glare, due to the glossy screen, which impacted upon our review of the LG 47LM6700.

A Step Backwards For LG When Compared to the 5600 Series

During our review of the LW5600 series, we had commented on the great value and active features and had truly held great expectations for the LG 47LM6700, thinking that there was only one direction LG could veer towards, and that was forward. Unfortunately for LG, this is not the case, and the LG 47LM6700 shows some evident flaws when comparing the 5600 series, mainly in terms of value, or price. Does $900 justify ignoring all the other adversaries in the field and convince you entirely that the LG 47LM6700 is the TV for you. Personally, we do not think that is the case but we are still going to offer an unbiased review of what to expect.

We don’t usually waste much sputum to talk about design but we have to say that the LG 47LM6700 has a very curious and unique silver ribbon stand, which even swivels. We are great fans of the swivel technology, as it avoids having to shift, lift or shove the TV, especially when connecting cables towards the rear.
Another fresh feature to marvel at and with lies within the Magic Motion remote, which is hardly what it claims to be but, for once, offers a gadget which is thoroughly enjoyable and simple to use. To give you an idea how it works, imagine a Wii control where you only need to wave it to change direction on the screen. It’s fun and what’s more important, it actually works!
Extras we haven’t yet mentioned include edge-lit technology with local dimming for dark rooms, built-in Wi-Fi and 6 pairs of 3D glasses, which is the most we’ve ever seen being given free until now!
Smart TV apps, as mentioned earlier, are plentiful. The best place to go to is the Premium section, which might have you wondering just how much you will have to pay to have the privilege of accessing any of the apps. Luckily, it’s just the name which is intimidating, as all the apps featured here are absolutely free. Entering the LG Smart World, which contains a plethora of other apps and demos, prompts you to insert a User ID and password and you will need to use these every time you access it.

Armed With All This Information the Choice is Now Yours to Decide

Other main assets to boast about for the LG 47LM6700 include the availability of 4 HDMI and 3 USB ports and there is 1 Component/Composite input to choose from.
In terms of color uniformity our tests showed weaknesses in Black Luminance, Average Gamma, Before Average Color Temperature, Blue Luminance Error and Magenta Hue x/y, which is quite substantial for a TV of this price.
